A learning platform serving 10,000+ learners, on the client's own servers.

The challenge

Commercial learning platforms charge per student, which turns growth into a rising cost rather than an improving margin. EduPath also had a hosting requirement: the platform had to run on their own infrastructure.

The technical constraint was the students themselves. Most were on mid-range Android phones and inconsistent connections, and everyone arrived at once on assessment days.

What we did

   Design for the slow connection

   Adaptive video streaming so lessons degrade in quality rather than buffering, and downloadable lessons for offline study.

   Build for the peak, not the average

   Load-tested at the concurrency of the largest cohort submitting simultaneously, with queued submission handling on the assessment path.

   Assessment engine

   Question banks, randomisation, timed attempts, and automated marking, with manual marking where the assessment requires judgement.

   Verifiable certificates

   Generated with identifiers employers can check, rather than a PDF anyone could produce.

   Role-based administration

   Instructors, administrators, and learners with distinct permissions and views.

   Deployed on client infrastructure

   The whole platform runs on their servers, with documentation written so their team can operate it.

The outcome

The platform serves more than ten thousand learners with no per-student licensing cost, on infrastructure the client controls.

The client owns the source code outright and can extend the platform with their own team or another supplier.
