Hire Android developers who test on the phones people actually own.

Kotlin and Jetpack Compose engineers who optimise for mid-range devices, patchy connections, and the fragmentation that makes Android genuinely harder than iOS.

Android's difficulty is variance. An app that performs beautifully on a flagship can be unusable on the mid-range device that represents most of your users, particularly in the markets we work across. Battery behaviour, background restrictions, and manufacturer customisations all differ.

We screen for engineers who profile on real low-end hardware, handle background work within modern Android's restrictions, and treat offline as the normal case rather than an error state.

How hiring through Qalmax works

  1. 1
    Tell us the role

The stack, the seniority, and the actual problems this person will work on — not just a job title.

  2. 2
    Shortlist within days

Pre-vetted engineers with profiles, availability, and monthly rates.

  3. 3
    You interview

You meet every candidate and make the final call. We never assign someone you have not spoken to.

  4. 4
    Start

Contract, NDA, equipment, and access handled by us. First meaningful pull request in week one.

  5. 5
    Thirty-day review

An honest checkpoint with your lead. Wrong fit? Replaced at no cost.

What we screen for

  • Kotlin with coroutines and flows
  • Jetpack Compose, plus XML views for existing codebases
  • Room, DataStore, and offline-first synchronisation
  • WorkManager and correct handling of background restrictions
  • Hilt or Koin for dependency injection
  • Retrofit and Ktor networking with caching and retry
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging, deep links, and App Links
  • Play Store release management: tracks, staged rollouts, target SDK deadlines
  • Performance profiling on low-end devices and Baseline Profiles
  • Play Billing for subscriptions and in-app purchases

What they build

  • Consumer apps built for mid-range and low-end devices
  • Field and delivery apps with full offline capability
  • Retail, banking, and utility apps for high-volume markets
  • Apps using camera, location, Bluetooth, or NFC
  • Android tablet and kiosk applications
  • Migrations from legacy Java codebases to Kotlin and Compose

If your scope is well defined and you want the delivery risk on us rather than on you, a fixed-price project is usually the better deal. Dedicated engineers suit work where the roadmap is still moving.

Questions, answered.

Will the app work on cheap Android phones?
That is a requirement we design and test against, not a hope. Engineers profile on genuinely low-end hardware, keep the APK small, avoid memory-heavy patterns, and use Baseline Profiles to improve startup. In several of our markets the mid-range Android phone is the majority device, so it is the target rather than the fallback.
Kotlin or Java?
Kotlin for anything new — it is Google's recommended language, it is more concise, and its null safety eliminates an entire class of crash. Java remains relevant only for maintaining existing codebases, and even there new code is usually written in Kotlin alongside the old.
Can they handle Play Store policy changes?
Yes, and it is a recurring rather than one-off task. Google raises target SDK requirements annually and updates data safety and permission policies regularly. Our engineers track these deadlines and handle staged rollouts so a problematic release can be halted before it reaches everyone.
How quickly can we start?
Days for common stacks. Specialist roles take longer because the shortlist is smaller, and we will not lower the bar to hit a date. You interview and approve every candidate before they start.
What if the engineer is not a good fit?
Tell us and we replace them at no cost, with handover so context is not lost. We would rather absorb that than have you carry someone who is not working out.
Who owns the code they write?
You do. IP assignment is in the contract, work happens in your repository under your account, and every engineer signs an NDA before access is granted.

Six things we put in writing.

Not values on a wall — contract terms. Ask any other supplier to match them line by line.

A price in 24 hours

Send a brief, get a fixed written price and a delivery date the next working day. Free, no obligation, and the scope document is yours to keep even if you go elsewhere.

The price does not move

Fixed, not an estimate. If scope changes we re-quote in writing and you approve before we build it. You will never open a surprise invoice.

Half on delivery

50% to start, 50% when it is live and you are satisfied. You never fund the whole project up front.

Unlimited design revisions

We do not write production code until you approve the screens. Changing your mind at that stage costs nothing.

You own everything

Full source code, design files and credentials on delivery. No licence, no platform fee, nothing that stops another developer taking over.

30 days of fixes included

Free bug fixing for a month after launch, then an optional retainer only if you want one.

Every one of these is in the agreement before you pay anything. See how we evidence our claims →

Tell us what you're building.

A paragraph is enough to start. You get a scoping conversation and a fixed written price with a delivery date within 24 hours — free, and yours to keep whether or not you go ahead with us.

  • A senior engineer replies, not a salesperson
  • Written quote inside 24 hours
