The challenge
Northwind's difficulty was not technical capability, it was predictability. Previous engagements had begun with an estimate, drifted into hourly billing, and ended with a delivery date that moved more than once. In one case the source code was never fully handed over.
What they needed from a supplier was a number, a date, and a handover — commitments that could be shown to their own stakeholders.
What we did
- 1Written scope before anything else
A feature-by-feature specification agreed and signed. Ambiguity in the specification is where timelines go to die.
- 2Fixed price with 50/50 terms
Half to start, half on delivery. Payment structured so the incentive to finish sat with us rather than with the client chasing.
- 3Delivery date named in the quote
Not an estimate. A date, matched to the agreed scope, committed to before work began.
- 4Change control in writing
Additions were quoted separately rather than absorbed silently or billed as extra hours. Scope stayed the thing both parties had agreed to.
- 5Daily visible progress
A staging environment the client could open at any time, and direct contact with the engineers rather than an account manager.
- 6Handover as a deliverable
Repository, documentation, infrastructure, and credentials treated as part of the project, not as a favour afterwards.
The outcome
The enterprise product suite was delivered on the agreed date, day 14, with no scope disputes during the build.
The complete codebase, documentation, and infrastructure access were transferred on delivery. The client's summary was that it was an enterprise build at an indie price — but the part they emphasised was simply that the date held.
I've shipped with three agencies before. Qalmax was the first to hit the date — and the first to hand me the full source code on day 14. Enterprise build, indie price.

Stack
Six things we put in writing.
Not values on a wall — contract terms. Ask any other supplier to match them line by line.
A price in 24 hours
Send a brief, get a fixed written price and a delivery date the next working day. Free, no obligation, and the scope document is yours to keep even if you go elsewhere.
The price does not move
Fixed, not an estimate. If scope changes we re-quote in writing and you approve before we build it. You will never open a surprise invoice.
Half on delivery
50% to start, 50% when it is live and you are satisfied. You never fund the whole project up front.
Unlimited design revisions
We do not write production code until you approve the screens. Changing your mind at that stage costs nothing.
You own everything
Full source code, design files and credentials on delivery. No licence, no platform fee, nothing that stops another developer taking over.
30 days of fixes included
Free bug fixing for a month after launch, then an optional retainer only if you want one.
Every one of these is in the agreement before you pay anything. See how we evidence our claims →
